As part of Waverley Council's Screen Citizens program series, we are celebrating Australian film and local Bondi/Waverley film makers. Film discussions will be hosted by film critic, Peter Castaldi. The recent National Film and Sound Archive digital restoration of the 1982 cult classic, Starstruck, directed by Gillian Armstrong, is heading to Sydney for it’s first screening in decades!

Re-living the 1980s rock musical drama in all its new glory, this fun, lively film, full of colourful 80’s costumes, hair and music about two teenagers dreaming of becoming rock stars, is set to propel the audience right back to the 1980s Sydney.

Producer, David Elfick will join film critic Peter Castaldi after the screening to talk about the making of the film, the journey of the film to cult classic, the importance of Australian stories and film restoration.

David Elfick is an Australian film and television producer and director, his body of work includes Newsfront (1978) Starstruck (1982), Blackrock (1997), and Rabbit Proof Fence (2002) as well as the surfing classics Morning of the Earth and Crystal Voyager. His films have won numerous awards including Australian Film Institute (Best Picture), Berlin Film Festival Crystal Bear (Jury prize), Australian Writers Guild (Best Screenplay twice), Rio De Janerio Film Festival (Audience prize) and Taormina Film Festival (Best Film).
