The inaugural Melbourne Musical Theatre Festival 6-28 January is proud to present the Australian professional premiere of Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein as its flagship festival production at the Athenaeum Theatre. This stunning collection of classic compositions features a star-studded cast of performers and a glorious parade of hits.

More so than any other musical works written for the stage, the songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein have become a fixture in pop culture and remain timeless for legions of musical theatre enthusiasts. The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific and The King and I are just some of the cultural classics that have left their imprint on generations of music, film and stage fans.

Starring a cast of Australia’s most accomplished singers including soprano Antoinette Halloran (Madama Butterfly and Tosca throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia), mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Dark (recently Mother Abbess in the national tour of The Sound of Music and currently Fricka in Opera Australia’s Ring Cycle), mezzo-soprano Dimity Shepherd (three-time Greenroom Award winner, known for her Carmen and Cherubino and avant-garde opera roles), tenor Jason Wasley (Old Deuteronomy in the 2015/2016 Australasian tour of CATS) and baritone Andrew Jones (over 500 leading performances for Opera Australia).
