Should we be trying to compare the men's and women's leagues? Should footy players come out publicly? Should trans women be able to play in the women’s league? Should the AFL and clubs have taken a stand on marriage equality?

The Rainbow Crows are hosting a discussion panel about diversity in the AFL with guests including Adelaide Crows AFLW co-captain, Chelsea Randall and Victorian Young Australian of the Year, Jason Ball, who was the first player - albeit regional player - to gain wide-stream media coverage as a gay male AFL player. Chelsea will talk about her history of playing football, the establishment of the AFLW and Crows team, and the journey to winning the inaugural premiership. Jason will share what it was like for him to play football while hiding his sexuality, his experience of coming out to his team, the development of the Pride Cup and AFL Pride Game, and his work as an inclusivity consultant. The panel will also discuss potential steps needed to combat homophobia in sport, the hurdles that still need to be overcome, the damaging impact on the mental health and wellbeing from the fear of safety and lack of inclusivity, and the development of Pride Supporter Groups.
