When the Taoist Tai Chi Society takes over the Northbridge Piazza, it will be a lively sight. More than 100 members in colourful t-shirts will perform the tai chi sequence while others will offer free classes to the public and provide information about the health benefits and about upcoming classes.

The Taoist Tai Chi Society of Australia is a part of the International Taoist Tai Chi Society, founded by Master Moy Lin-shin. It is a volunteer, not-for-profit and charitable organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of the Taoist Tai Chi™ arts to the community. More than 40,000 people of all ages and abilities practise Taoist Tai Chi in 26 countries around the world and report many health and well-being benefits.

The ancient Chinese believed that true health comes when body, mind and spirit work together in harmony. In accord with this tradition, the flowing movements of tai chi provide a gentle but strong workout for the body and a calming meditation for the mind.

"These benefits, and many more, are backed up by a recent detailed survey of our own members. An overview of the results of this survey can be found at the link provided."
.
“We look forward to many people taking up our invitation to find out more and try a free have-a-go session at the Northbridge Piazza on 29 October”.

Image opportunities: More than 200 people in colourful orange, red and blue shirts performing the flowing moves of tai chi in unison at the Northbridge Piazza. Interview opportunities: Senior representatives of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Australia will be available for interview prior to, and during, the event.

President of the Society, Heather Williams, says: “Western medical research offers much supporting evidence for the health benefits of tai chi—for immune function, control of the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and fibromyalgia, reduction in the risk of falls, improved cardiovascular function, reduction of knee pain and back pain, and improved mood and cognitive function.
