Everyman Theatre, producers of last year’s critically acclaimed production of The Normal Heart are back with another Tony Award winner, Alan Bennett’s The History Boys.

An unruly class of gifted and charming teenage boys are taught by three eccentric and innovative teachers as their headmaster pushes them all to get accepted into Oxford and Cambridge universities. They want it, the school wants it, but when ‘getting in’ can sometimes mean ‘standing out’ how far do you go to get noticed?

Is ‘an education’ merely the process of ticking boxes and advancing to the next stage of life? Or is it more about enjoying and experiencing the world in all its beauty and terror, enriching your mind and soul in the process?

Alan Bennett’s play took the world by storm when it first opened in 2004, breaking box office records and touring the world, before winning the Tony Award for Best Play in 2006.

“A play of depth as well as dazzle, intensely moving as well as thought-provoking and funny.” - The Daily Telegraph
