An epic, exhilarating new adaptation of Homer's 'Iliad' by William Zappa.

Fury. So much fury. Tell us Muse, of Achilles, the son of Peleus, insane and cursed, whose fury cost the Achaeans dear.

The Gods of Olympus take their sides and the fates of all men hang in the balance. On the battlefield of Troy the scene is set for the final conflict to claim the beautiful Helen. Only the invincible Greek warrior Achilles can tip the scales of war to glory or defeat, but humiliated by his leader Agamemnon, he is stubbornly refusing to join the fray.

The Iliad tells of the tragic and bloody climax to the ten-year siege of Troy; the darkest episode in the Trojan War. Following on from the success of The Sonnets Out Loud in 2016, The Street brings The Iliad Out Loud to the stage, continuing the exploration of marrying classic verse text with live performance. Homer’s poem is the source myth of Greek drama, a foundational text of Western Culture, and the greatest story of heroism, betrayal and war in literature.

The Iliad Out Loud & Abridged will be performed in three parts, over three nights. Each performance will last around three hours, punctuated with intervals.

You can join us for a few chapters or for the entire thrilling tale –wherever your sense of adventure takes you! Tickets can be purchased for each of the three parts individually, or in a package of two or three parts.
