Troop Production’s latest masterpiece The Lonesome West is set to go off with a bang as it hits the stage at Judith Wright Centre this November. This explosive black comedy, written by the internationally-acclaimed Martin McDonagh, is “brutal and savagely funny”, according to the Sunday Times.

Set on the West coast of Ireland, The Lonesome West is the satirical tale of two brothers attempting reconciliation against a dark backdrop of patricide, religious hypocrisy and vicious bloody carnage.

Troop Productions hopes its latest production will trigger a new sense of celebration of the rich historical connection between Irish and Australian communities in Queensland. Producer Tara Henry says “The Queensland Irish community is largely segregated after the sale of Tara House in 2015. Through Irish theatre, we hope to contribute to the process of rebuilding the Irish community”.

The multi-Matilda nominated Troop Productions is Queensland’s only film and theatre production company. The group of visionaries and artistic collaborators has a strong focus on building sustainability within the arts.

‘The Lonesome West’ is directed by Keiran Brice, and stars local actors Christopher Story and Cameron Hurry who play the ill-fated Connor brothers, UK performer Eva McGillivray as the young and beautiful Girleen, and Irish actor, Derek Draper as the ethically bereft Father Welsh.
