The Southern Sisters queens have performed across Australia and some, the World, but they are looking forward to their upcoming show at the country Spud Shed Barn Theatre, on the banks of lake Alexandrina.

Troupe coordinator, “The famed Kristina International” (SA Life) (also known as Andrew B) recently ventured to Paris with a suitcase full of costumes. He lived like a local for an extended period and immersed himself in the celebrated cabaret culture. The Spud Shed show is the first of The Southern Sisters tour upon his return.

Performing alongside Kristina will be “drag artiste extraordinaire” (The Advertiser), Miss Molly; Cherry Poppins, who is well-known as one of the resident drag queens at The Mars Bar throughout the club’s final years; Miss Treat, who’s coming all the way from Port Pirie and fresh from a trip to Thailand; and larger than life Mistress of Ceremonies, Rita Demore’e.

Being from a theatrical family, Andrew has known the Spud Shed owners from a young age; Contortionist Christine Danton (known as the oldest contortionist in the World) and comedian Jim Danton. This connection and adventurous spirits ultimately lead to the theatre being booked for an evening of drag, with some difference!

Christine and Jim transformed the former potato-growing shed a couple of years ago into the 100 seat theatre with ample stage for performers to work with, theatrical lighting and surround sound system. They regularly hold popular variety and comedy evenings.

Each of the Southern Sisters is set to bring what they do best with copious glamour, comedy and drama! The show will be composed of a couple of iconic solo acts each, coming together as a group and some camp duets, all linked together by Rita’s innate charm and wit.

The two-hour show (including a half hour intermission) will follow a preshow party to which ticket holders are invited to BYO drinks and enjoy a $3 sausage sizzle. A bonfire will be lit post show which some of the queens will also be out to enjoy! Jim and Christine also invite guests to camp on their property overnight.

All tickets are available at The Milang Mini Mart; The Book Keeper, Strathalbyn; and limited online. Show night is Saturday 7th October. The preshow party shall kick off from 5pm, with the show scheduled for 6 till 8, followed by the bonfire party till approximately 9pm. The Spud Shed is located at 809 Lake Road, Tolderol.
