Be swept away in an imaginative take on the folk idiom as Newcastle’s experimental folk mainstays, Vanishing Shapes, appear in Sawtell as part of a weekender mini tour.

Quickly evolved from a Conservatorium project Vanishing Shapes fuses old sounds of traditional folk music with modern influences such as electronic dance, progressive rock and classical; uniquely traversing from large cinematic soundscapes to twisted dance tunes oncall acoustic instruments.

Endearingly dubbed ‘fairy music’ during an early tour, their unique sound has found a home in some unexpected places, receiving strong support from Newcastle warehouse party scenes as well as sharing the stage with diverse national and international acts such as Afenginn, The Crooked Fiddle Band and Asta. The band has maintained a busy schedule touring independently, releasing an EP and full length album and playing festivals including St Albans Folk Festival, Wollombi Music Festival and Bellingen Turtlefest.
