Walk for Awareness is an opportunity for the community to come together to support each other, to break the silence on mental illness and to contribute to the funding of programs that are making a difference on the front line with mental health issues.

Walk for Awareness, now in its seventh year is led by MAF Founders, Tudor and Wesley Vasile who expect the walk to draw in over 5,000 participants from around the country this year. Wesley says it is all about finding support and working towards a mental health that works for each individual.

“No matter what it is, whether it’s running, walking, yoga, meditation or speaking to a friend—it’s all about taking a positive step for their mental health,” Wesley said.

At this year’s Walk for Awareness, participants can expect an incredible and inspiring line-up of fun and informative activities, including an opening ceremony of remembrance and mindfulness, and an 8km walk around Brisbane’s scenic river.

Registrations for the event are now open via People of all ages, genders and fitness levels are encouraged to get involved to help make a difference on the front line with mental illness.

About the Walk!

The morning begins with an inspiring opening ceremony, where we remember those lost to depression and mental illness and honour those continuing the battle. After a quick warm up and stretch, walkers will take off on an 8km walk around Brisbane’s winding river and beautiful scenery.

As you make your way towards the Finish Line, you’ll walk over Brisbane’s finest landmarks ‘The Story Bridge’, where you will be cheered on by onlooking supporters and finally greeted with high energy celebrations of your epic walk and amazing impact you’ve just made in the quest to raise awareness of depression and mental illness.

Walk for Awareness is an event that involves bringing people together in a friendly environment where the issues of mental health can be discussed openly with friends, family and supportive strangers. We believe the matters surrounding suicide should be discussed, not hidden.
