Part of the Classical Guitar Festival Sydney.

The Sydney Guitar Trio, comprising Raffaele and Janet Agostino, together with acclaimed guitarist-composer Richard Charlton, began performing together in 1981 as founding members of the Sydney Guitar Quartet, the first ensemble of its kind in Australia.

Formed in 1996 and giving their inaugural concert that year for the Classical Guitar Society Sydney, the trio has performed extensively around Australia, including 5 Darwin International Guitar Festivals, where several Australian works were premiered. The group has toured to Argentina, England and Italy including a performance at the Royal College of Music and a benefit recital at Australia House playing alongside artists such as Tommy Emmanuel and Craig Ogden.

Their CD, “One Hour To Madness and Joy” features compositions especially written for the group by Australian composers Phillip Houghton, Richard Charlton, Roland Chadwick, Allan Holley and Amanda Handel. The Argentinean composer Maximo Diego Pujol dedicated his work “Tangondo” to the Sydney Guitar Trio.

“A lovely performance from a group bringing a welcome array of positive, quality, new music into a world needy of understanding.” - Tim Panting (Classical Guitar Magazine, 2001)
