The Young Women's Jazz Orchestra (YWJO) play their last gig of the year at Lazybones Lounge! Buy your tickets at the door.

This group of talented young women aged 16-22 formed in August 2016, as an initiative by Sirens Big Band to create a path for aspiring jazz musicians from school ensembles to professional bands, and improve their skills as improvisors. Since the group's formation they have played at some of Sydney's top jazz venues and universities, and had workshops with amazing international artists including Christine and Ingrid Jensen, and Camille Thurman.

Their repertoire predominantly consists of music by Australian composers. At Lazybones they will be bringing you 2 sets of diverse and exciting music, including some ska, salsa, swing and tango! YWJO are led by composer and trumpeter Ellen Kirkwood, who was recently a finalist in the Freedman Jazz Fellowships, and was the winner of the 2012 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award.

After YWJO will be a trio jazz set by Sirens' bandleader Jessica Dunn on bass, YWJO director Ellen Kirkwood on trumpet and Sirens' old friend recently returned from an extended overseas performing stint, guitarist Debbie Yap.
