Come and celebrate the Gold Museum’s 40th Birthday.
A full program of events will be on offer to celebrate the momentous occasion including tours, floor talks and kids’ activities. Entry to the Gold Museum is free for this one-off event. The museum first opened to the public in December, 1978. Since then it has been instrumental in the collection and conservation of the social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Ballarat region.
Alongside the birthday celebrations is the launch of the museum’s latest exhibition, Wonderful Things. The exhibition will display select items from the museums 150,000 collection, including the famous Ballarat Bertie mascot from the Ballarat Brewery Company.
One of the collections oldest costume pieces will also be on display—an elaborate dress dating back over 200 years. The exhibition will be open from Thursday, 29 November until April 2019.
