Do you love to make things with your hands? Learn how to weave in circles with Gold Coast based artist Melissa Spratt. Play with the colour and feel of the wool to create a stunning platter to hang on your wall or to store your special things on. Thanks to QAGOMA, every participant will also receive a bonus tapestry kit to take home and keep up your new weaving skills.

About Melissa:
Melissa Spratt is an emerging artist who lives and works on the Gold Coast. Melissa studied at the Queensland College of Art where she completed her Bachelor of Digital Media with Honours, majoring in Fine Art. Spratt has worked with various mediums including painting, photography, drawing and printmaking, but has found most enjoyment in the realms of installation and sculpture. Recently exploring textile elements and working closely with different yarn making techniques. Spratt was the winner of the RADFLY Youth Art Prize in 2017 and was a finalist in the Border Art Prize at Tweed Regional Gallery in 2016. Spratt is looking forward to taking up the Winter artist in residence at The Walls Art Space on the Gold Coast in 2018.

About ArtLab
In ArtLab kids 5–16 years can explore big ideas while working with a professional artist to create an artwork to take home. In the workshop kids will learn about different materials, practice and skills through activities responding to current exhibitions and the Gallery at HOTA collection. ArtLab caters for older creative kids with two sessions tailored for 5–10 years and 11–16 years.

Recommended ages:

Session 1, 10am for 5–10 year olds
Session 2, 1pm for 11–16 year olds

Adult ticket prices included in children’s ticket.
All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
