Babes and Beer is based on true story when writer and director, Serah Nathan, went for a holiday with her mates to Cape Tribulation. There was nothing to do there except sit around a nightly bonfire and talk to strangers. In fact, that blurry photo above is from the night that inspired the play.

The show tells the story of Lena, Agnes and Rhiannon. They each experience a strange evening, when they pair up with guys they meet at the crappy lodge they’re staying at. The themes explore social malaise, female sexuality and mother-son relationships, but most of all, Babes and Beer is modern theatre written for people who’d rather stream their entertainment and don’t mind eating crisps in bed.

Don’t worry, this play isn’t a comedy of errors set in ol’ timey London. There are no cheap wigs. No musical numbers. No butchered accents. You’re safe.

Mission Australia is a not for profit charity that has several ways of supporting teenagers who are not earning or learning. They offer work experience, outreach case management support, mentoring and certified training.

Youth living in areas of high disadvantage are at risk of disengaging from school or work. For rural job seekers a car is essential, so Mission Australia helps youth with limited income to get their driver’s license. Mission also use art, music and culturally relevant activities to help young people return to school or move into training.
