2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games mascot, Borobi, will be making a special appearance at Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre on Saturday, March 24 in celebration of the impending commencement of the Games.

Sporting his vibrant yellow board shorts, the blue koala will visit the Surfers Paradise’s urban hub from 11am to 1pm, meeting and greeting shoppers, taking photos and making new friends. The arrival of Borobi at Chevron Renaissance will give Gold Coasters and visitors to the area, the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with the Gold Coast icon ahead of the Games.

With the Games just weeks away, Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre anticipates an influx of shoppers to the Centre with Surfers Paradise taking on the role of celebration central throughout the event. Borobi, which means koala in the language of the Gold Coast Yugambeh people, is Australia’s first surfing koala, inspired by a drawing created by Brisbane school teacher Merrilyn Krohn, the winner of the GC2018 Mascot Design Competition.

Come April, Borobi will play a key role in welcome athletes from around the world to the Gold Coast and will invite the world to Share the Dream™ of GC2018 and bring the true spirit of the Games to life.

To accommodate the increased visitors to the precinct, Chevron Renaissance Coles will operate 24 hours from Tuesday, April 3 until Monday, April 16. Selected specialty stores, cafes and restaurants will also have extended trading hours during this key time.

The iconic retail and dining destination is set for the Commonwealth Games having undergone an exten-sive revitalisation since Precision Group purchased the shopping Centre in May 2015. Since then, several million dollars have been spent on the Centre, with further works to continue this year.
Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre is located at 3240 Surfers Paradise Blvd, Surfers Paradise and of-fers two hours free parking to shoppers.
