This pottery and ceramics class is for new and continuing students who would like to learn wheel-throwing and/or clay hand building techniques to make make functional and decorative objects and forms. New students with no prior experience will be introduced to fundamental principles of working with clay using hand building techniques as well as wheel throwing and build on their skills and confidence each week. Continuing students or those with prior experience elsewhere will continue to refine their skills, start to develop their own projects and interests and build confidence.

Our purpose built ceramics studio is located in the heart of Sydney’s inner west. The studio is equipped with 8 pottery wheels and plenty of clay hand building stations. A limited number of glazes are available and work is kiln fired on the premises. There is a maximum of 8 students in this class.

What to expect:

Through demonstration and hands on practice...

- learn and develop clay hand building technique including: Pinching, Coiling, Slab Building, Clay Relief.
- practise the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing including: centring, shaping and trimming
- learn a range of surface decoration techniques
- learn about the possibilities of glazing

Classes are available through the week during the daytime and evening.

Art Est. offers a boutique learning experience for adults, teens and children. Located in a spacious, light-filled heritage warehouse, with four dedicated teaching studios, an art gallery and a new ceramics studio. Our class sizes are kept to only 10–12 students (8 for wheel throwing pottery), ensuring each student receives the individual tuition they need.

Art classes for adults are available weekdays, evenings and Saturday mornings. We also have a great range of single day weekend art workshops available, a perfect option for visitors to Sydney looking for things to do, or for someone who doesn’t have time to commit to a term class.

Kids and Teens can build their creative skills at our after school and Saturday term classes as well as our school holiday workshops each and every holiday.
