During this course, Michelle will introduce various classical strategies and techniques for drawing from Still Life. This course is well suited to people with some drawing experience who would like to return to a regular drawing or want to re-establish the foundations of their practice. We also welcome beginners in the course, as it will help you develop fundamental drawing techniques.

We believe everyone can draw. Drawing not only brings many people joy, it is also therapeutic and with practice, impressive results can be achieved. Still Life is an important genre for every artist; enabling the exploration of elements such as line, composition, value or tone, space and nearly every type of texture. Drawing from Still Life can be the foundation of an artist’s practice.

Michelle will present a different Still Life set-up each week to focus on a different element of drawing. All of the drawing will be observational, from Still Life. Over the six weeks you will cover:

Week one: Cylinders – vases, bowls and beautiful curves
Week two: Creative botanical drawing – flowers in bloom
Week three: Focus on folds – Still Life and drapery
Week four: Darks and lights – painted fruit in light
Week five: Texture – drawing fish
Week six: Still Life using other media

This course is technical in focus but loosely structured, allowing for students to express their individual creativity. Students can use any of the mediums we supply—pencil, coloured pencil, charcoal or soft pastels. You are more than welcome to bring your own drawing materials too. Our class sizes are limited to ten students to ensure Michelle can provide one-on-one tuition.

Materials: all materials included, however, you are welcome to bring your own materials.
