Changes are coming for energy efficiency. Up until now, the BCA has given us options for achieving compliance for energy efficiency in homes. The BCA 2019 is looking to tighten up that on flexibility, reverting more homes to the ‘6 star’ assessment pathway.

Come along to learn about what these changes will mean for home building in WA. We will also look at smart design options and material selections that can be used to reduce the impacts on the cost of a home’s construction.

Debbie Bute - Energy Section Manager - Structerre Consulting

Debbie Bute has worked within the WA industry for 10 years with the last 8 years working for Structerre Consulting as Energy Section Manager. Debbie is an experienced assessor in the Western Australian energy community and has been involved with resolving energy related issues addressed by the WA Technical Advisory Committee and WA Building Commission.

Simon Croft - Executive Director - Building Policy

Simon is responsible for overseeing HIA’s extensive involvement in relevant building codes and Australian Standards committees and manages HIA’s Building Services team nationally. He is also HIA’s representative on a number of Commonwealth and State peak building advisory boards and committees and also sits on a number of industry bodies boards.

Simon has oversight for HIA responses to governments on relevant building policy issues that affect residential building work and building practitioners, particularly on issues such as energy efficiency regulations, accessibility, building products and building certification reviews.

Simon previously worked for the Australian Building Codes Board as a Project Manager and has over 17 years’ experience working in the building and construction industry in a number roles including project and construction manager, building and construction trainer and is a qualified carpenter. Simon has a broad range of building and construction qualifications in fields of building, building surveying, project management and training.
