In the lead-up to Homelessness Week, 6–12th August, the Eastern Homelessness Network (EHN) will host the inaugural Homeward Bound Walk. The community is invited to walk the perimeter of the Lake, listen to the real-life experiences of speakers who have experienced homelessness, and enjoy a free BBQ & live music from the Michelle Chandler 3.

Right now, on any given night in Australia, 1 in 200 people are homeless and 3,280 people are homeless within the Eastern Metropolitan Region. Last year, 3,280 people within the Eastern Metro Region sought help from a homelessness service, with the majority being women. Half of all those experiencing homelessness in Victoria are under 25. Rough sleeping represents just 5% of all homelessness in Victoria. Just 6% of all private rentals in Melbourne would be affordable to someone on a low income. In the Yarra Ranges, the figure is much lower at 4%.
