Weekly Drama Classes for Kids aged between 7 and 12 years of age.

This is a nine week (Term 1) of drama classes for children aged between 7 and 12. The course is run by one of Australia's leading and most established drama schools, "Drama With A Difference". We have operated for over twenty years, and many of our students have gone on to become extremely well-known and successful Australian actors. We have had children appear in major feature films, almost every Australian TV show since our inception, endless ads, and in professional theatre productions.

Although our classes are great for budding young actors, we equally welcome children who wish to attend drama for recreational purposes. Our major aim is to assist kids with their self-esteem, confidence and to nurture their innate creativity—whatever level they are at. So, while some kids attend because they want to be actors, an equal number attend to overcome shyness, make new friends, or simply to have fun!

The teacher of this course is experienced in acting and has appeared in shows in The Melbourne Comedy Festival and The Melbourne Fringe Festival. He is also a fully qualified primary teacher. His major passion is teaching children and bringing out the best in them. He is deeply committed to bringing out the innate creativity that exists in every child, and teaches in a nurturing, safe environment.

Children will learn the skills of improvisation, character work, voice, scene preparation, group devised script work, pre-written script work, movement (in terms of creating a character- not dance!), and a range of other skills.

All of these subjects are extremely advantageous for children for a wide range of reasons. As our society relies more and more on upfront presentation skills in later school years, at universities and in the work-place, the advantage of early drama classes stands kids in a stronger position to cope with speaking in front of others.

There is the opportunity to continue into the rest of the year (payment is on a term by term basis). In Term 3 or 4 (to be determined) all children take part in a public performance in front of friends, family and anyone else who wants to attend their shows. They generally perform 3 shows to a packed audience, albeit in an intimate theatre setting! Our small theatre is ideal for young children and is fitted with professional lighting and sound and we employ a professional lighting designer and operator for our public performances.

This course is ideal for raw beginners and children who may have done drama in the past. If you peruse our website in detail, you will see that we are experts at integrating kids of various levels of abilities and ages. (However you must be between 7 and 12 years of age to join this class).
