Learn how to make a dress.

I love wearing dresses!

Dresses are my 'go to' wardrobe essential, and I'm very excited to bring this class to you. How great is it when you find a dress you love - but want it in every colour? After this class, you will be able to re-create it into as many colours as you want.

This class will start to touch on basic pattern making techniques - with the option of changing the length of the dress - do you like them short, knee length or to the floor? Do you want a V neck, high back, scoop can decide! We will be adding seam allowances to patterns and adding a lining to the bodice part too.

Key Take away's / Learning's from the class:
- How to measure your body for a pattern and pick the size to use
- Tracing off a pattern
- Basic design work - how to add panels and contrast colours to the dress
- Basic pattern alterations - adding new seam allowances, changing the length and also the front - and back necklines
- Bagging out to conceal seams around the arms and neck and leave a professionally finished garment that is partially lined
- Beginning to learn about fabric placement when cutting out and fabric wastage
- Constructing the garment
- Finishing techniques to ensure a high quality garment which will wear well

Pre Class Requirements:
1. Completed the Introductory to Overlocker's class using either your own machine or one of Ariane's
2. Discussed with Ariane that you have suitable recent experience with a machine to be able to enjoy this class.

What to bring with you:
- A note book
- Fabric: Expect to buy between 1.5 to 3.5 meters of stretch lycra or velvet (or similar) between week 1 and 2. During your first session, after selecting your pattern Ariane will help you to understand the best type of fabric to bring for the remainder of the course

If you are using your own overlocker please bring it for week 3. You will also need the machine pedal, threads and machine specific needles

If you do not have your own Overlocker - you are welcome to use one of Ariane's - the number of these is limited, so please advise at the time of booking if you will need one so that the class numbers can be arranged correctly - thank you. If you need to use one of these machines please ensure that your fabric needs BLACK threads, as this is what the machines will be set up to use

What would you receive:
- The option to make a dress at the perfect length for you

- The opportunity to customise this dress with varying front and back necklines, waist heights and dress lengths - if you are planning to make this as a gift, please advise Ariane of the recipient's measurements before the class to ensure that she has prepared the correct pattern size for you

- A functioning dress suitable for either day/evening outerwear or festival wear depending on the fabrics selected

- A pattern that you can go home and re-create

Class Capacity:
