Horse Bazaar celebrate 5 years of current incarnation with a night of Melbourne x Tokyo music, food and subculture + Japanese beat masters Budamunk & Aaron Choulai.

Melbourne’s best kept secret and Japanese underground venue Horse Bazaar is set to celebrate their 5th year of husband and wife team Takako and Fumi Tamura taking from the original owners, and they invite you to join them to experience a night of Melbourne x Tokyo music, food and subculture on Saturday 19 May.

Joining them exclusively from Japan is Delicious Vinyl’s DJ Budamunk and Aaron Choulai (Jazzy Sport) who will be hitting the decks with local beat makers from Melbourne music collective Lab Co and producer DJ Snuc who is originally from Japan but now resides in Melbourne and also works in the kitchen at Horse Bazaar.

Having met back in 2009 when Takako started working in the kitchen and DJing regularly at Horse Bazaar, Taka felt it was the perfect place for her to be and create and grow Horse Bazaar into one of the best community bar and kitchen. After a spending a couple of years back in Japan and Singapore, the owner of Horse Bazaar offered Takako and Fumi an offer they couldn’t refuse, to take over Horse Bazaar.

Now, together they run the only Japanese owned bar, restaurant, and music venue in Melbourne, with all hands on deck as the head chef, running the special events, live music and DJs, Takako and Fumi share a common goal, which is to be creative together and be a bridge between Japan and Melbourne, by creating an open and inclusive community for musicians, DJs, students and artists alike.

Having both been embedded deeply in the Melbourne music for many years Takako started DJing in Melbourne with hip hop pioneer Elf Tranzporter as DJ HeadChefSonik, touring Australia the US and Japan, as well as running workshops for the outback community for youth. Now retired from DJing, Takako in her time supported Akil Mc (Jurassic 5), and played weekly residencies with the likes of Mz Rizk and Cat Sweeny and was a regular DJ for Multicultural Arts Victoria.

Fumi hit the Melbourne music scene at the vocalist for punk rock band Sunsgrind and started DJing after taking over Horse Bazaar. His passion for music and still continues and he still performs with Melbourne local jazz Band called The Lagerphones and runs his own Melbourne food and entertainment channel on YouTube Ponpon Channel.

Born in Shinjuku, Japan DJ Budamunk moved to LA at the age of 16 and started DJ and making beats. In 2004, Budamunk started working as Keentokers with Joe Styles (Delicious Vinyl) and OYG (DNC) and earned fame for LA underground scene.

In 2006, Budamunk moved back to Japan and joined Jazzy Sport. He won the prize at the very first beat battle in Japan called “Goldfinger’s Kitchen 08”. In 2011, he teamed up with Issugi & 5lack and released music as Green Butter collaborating with Mabanua, all the while building up the underground scene in Japan. In 2014 and 2015 Budamunk’s dream came true when he released two albums, an album with Joe Style in 2014 and solo album in 2105 on long-established US record label Delicious Vinyl, leading him to tour extensively through Asian in 2016.

This year, Budamunk is set to release more music as a Japan’s leading beat maker and will be stopping by Horse Bazaar for one night only! An evening of Melbourne x Tokyo music, food and subculture at Horse Bazaar.
