Join Peter Forrestal and Swinney Vineyards Owner Matt Swinney for a Long Table Lunch as we uncover this treasure of the Frankland River region.
The Swinney family have been residents on their 2500ha property since it was settled by George John Alexander Swinney in 1922, four generations later and Matt Swinney and his sister Janelle are taking the vineyard from strength to strength.
Whilst still using trellising for a few varieties, there are a number of bush vines on site. The aim being to have minimum intervention grape growing, selected organic practices and a general philosophy of letting the vines find their natural balance on a site per site basis. The objective is for the fruit that is produced to be a strong reflection of its micro climate—to have a natural sense of place.
Swinney Vineyards are a major grape grower in the Great Southern region and supply their fruit to numerous premium WA wine brands whilst selecting small quantities of high quality fruit for their own eponymous label.
You can be sure you will learn a thing or two from this long family farming history, and there's guaranteed to be a few entertaining stories along the way!
