Anisa Nandaula is a nationally renowned and state champion slam poet whose debut collection of poetry (self published 2018), left no doubt amongst her fans that her work was as powerful on the page as in front of audiences, selling out of its first print run in a matter of months. Her reputation as a provocative and insightful writer led to an invitation to write a stage play for Wonderland Festival, hosted at Brisbane’s premier performing arts precinct; the Brisbane Powerhouse. The result is an hour long performance that brings together the classic form of zombie thriller with social commentary told through spoken word performance and hip hop.

The Grass Is Dead On the Other Side tells the tale of two siblings, Zamba and Pemulway, who have been forced to become warriors in the fight to protect their homes against an army of the blood-thirsty living dead. Set in an apocalyptic Queensland, they face an enemy who will stop at nothing to steal their culture, homes and families in pursuit of its own survival. The only way to save the people they love and protect their homes is to join the very zombies they are trying to fight.

But will they be able to return once they place their heads in the mouth of the beast?
