Sydney Road Gallery presents two new exhibitions—a group show ‘Why So Serious’ and a duo show ‘Unravel’ by Sarah Montgomery and Tracy Dickason.

The ‘Why So Serious’ exhibition explores the lighter side of life, highlighting the need to laugh and relax. The exhibition showcases a body of work where the artists explore a brighter approach to their work by embracing fun and frivolity.

The duo show, ‘Unravel’, features a collection of works that give shape to gentle stories of observation and interaction, connections to past and present, and what people choose to hold on to and what to release.

Ms Montgomery, a printmaker and Ms Dickason, a ceramicist, have come together on a journey of mark marking, an art technique of creating intricate and interesting lines, patterns, and textures on artworks. The exhibition includes collaborative pieces, showcasing detailed sculptural forms and works on paper. As a printmaker, Ms Montgomery creates intricate details of nature and natural patterns. Etching layers and tones onto copper she builds imagery through her interpretations of flora and fauna.

“Each piece is an echo of human connection as well as dislocation, where you can imagine and reflect on your own stories. I experiment with line and shape, allowing overlapping colours and contours to create open-ended narratives,” said Ms Montgomery.

Ms Dickason uses a combination of porcelain ceramics, mixed media, contemporary illustrations, and paintings on paper and canvas to move beyond structure to evoke an emotional encounter.

“In this exhibition, my works explore different textures and materials to take the viewer on a visual and sensory journey. Using the raw communication of art to tell stories is my passion, and this collection uses visual storytelling to connect with the world in an honest and authentic way,” said Ms Dickason.

All works on display are for sale. Select from works that experiment uniquely with copper, porcelain, paper, stone and thread.

Opening Night Drinks: Friday 26 October, 6:00pm–8:30pm
