Identical twin sisters Alanna and Alicia are excited to be returning to play at The Troubadour. They have captivated audiences from Fairbridge to the National Folk Festivals with their original folky jazz songs, their quality quirky lyrics and sweet harmonies.
As identical twins, they have a rich, intuitive vocal blend, creating the kind of magical close harmonies that are unique to siblings. Think ‘The Waifs’, ‘The Andrews Sisters.’ Both are gifted songwriters who have won awards at national level, including Best New Talent at Port Fairy Folk Festival earlier in their career. Their lyrics, equal parts heart and humour, sparkle with an original, intimate voice.
They will sing and tell stories from their most recent album, 'Songs I'm Singing with Me,’ a tribute to acclaimed Australian troubadour, John Beavis whose beautiful, poetic songs were not as widely heard as deserved because of his ongoing battle with mental illness. Alanna and Alicia tell his tender story with warmth and humour, and sing their own arrangements of his songs.
They will also take you on a journey through their original songs from their stunning back catalogue, Twinlines, Two in a Book and Funny She’s So Much Like Me. On stage Alanna and Alicia exude warmth, wit and fun and will be performing with their fine band of talented musicians, Jen Hawley, guitar, Silas Palmer, piano and violin, and Sarah Busutill, violin and snare drum.
"Alanna & Alicia's stunningly beautiful voices blended harmonically together like a studio overdub as they weaved their way through a wonderfully varied selection of great songs, many of them original, accompanied by four highly accomplished musicians. Unquestionably one of the best concerts we’ve had here in Humph Hall since we began over nine years ago!" - Wayne Richmond, Humph Hall, Sydney, January, 2019
"In concert they are entertaining and lively characters with an unpredictable, unscripted natural humour inspired by close observations and wry story telling. They are brimming with talent, a free spirit and endearing charm." - Jamie McKew, former Director Port Fairy Folk Festival, 1977–2015.
