Belinda Parsons is a Melbourne vocalist, composer and educator who blends jazz, pop and musical theatre to create melody-driven, moving original music. She is a vocal chameleon, with a flawless vocal sound influenced by Ella Fitzgerald, Beady Belle and Whitney Houston.
Her original pop-infused jazz project, Beetet, seeks to celebrate this diversity of influence. Her band of Melbourne’s finest jazz musicians creates a nuanced, lyrical backdrop to her effortless vocals. The ensemble showcases the outstanding talents of Gillan Funk-Norman Gregory Jr (Guitar), Tamara Murphy (Bass), Ryan Menezes (Drums), Alistair Parsons (Trombone), and Niels Rosendahl (Saxophone).
Belinda’s career has taken her across the globe and numerous music scenes. She played the role of Bombalurina for the world tour of Cats, alongside Carolyn O’Connor in Mack and Mabel, and in countless other theatre productions. She has sung with a huge array of Melbourne bands including The Grand Wazoo, The Daryl McKenzie Jazz Orchestra and Matt Amy’s Really Big Band. This has led her to establish her annual Very Big Band Christmas, a celebration of festive vocal jazz recordings performed by numerous singers. She regularly works as a session vocalist for recordings and live performances.
Belinda is a graduate of the VCA in jazz improvisation (studying with Shelley Scown, Michelle Nicole, Nichaud Fitzgibbon and Eugene Ball). She has also trained in the Estill method, and musical theatre. Her vast experience across the arts industry is now shared with the next generation of singers. She is a leading singing educator in Melbourne, including VCE vocal assessment, private teaching and is the director of numerous choirs and school productions.
