About the film

Voted the best Dutch film ever in 2008, Black Book is a multi-award-winning wartime drama-thriller set in 1944, in the Nazi occupied Netherlands. It tells the story of Dutch-Jewish singer, Rachel Stein (Carice van Houten) as she becomes a spy, infiltrating the regional Gestapo headquarters on behalf of the Dutch resistance. Beautifully portraying the fierce emotions that come from Stein’s deadly web of double-dealings, this epic thriller will have you on the edge of your seat till the very last second.

Trivia bite: Black Book is the most expensive Dutch film ever made with a total budget of 16 million euros! It was so expensive that the production company ran out of money and had to wait for box office revenue before they could pay their crew.
