Special Hobart Synagogue concert features Klezmer, Gypsy music—Bohemian Nights.

Melbourne world music duo Bohemian Nights will perform a special concert at Hobart Synagogue, featuring songs and tunes from their Klezmer and other Jewish repertoire, as well as Gypsy and European music.

Bohemian Nights is in Tasmania to perform for the Cygnet Folk Festival (4th time). Their 2015 concert for the Hobart Synagogue was held at Mathers Hall and sold out, and people are advised to book early for the 2018 concert.

Ernie Gruner (violin, mandolin, vocals) and Phil Carroll (vocals, accordion, kaval) play Klezmer, Gypsy, French, Italian, Russian, jazz and tango music ranging from soulful to wild. They’ve both played and recorded together in bands including Klezmeritis & Yalla! (seen on ABC TVs Spicks n Specks).

They’ve studied overseas in Cracow, Budapest, Montreal, Istanbul, New York and recorded 2 CDs. Australian concerts highlights include several National Folk Festivals, the National Multicultural Festival, tours around regional Victoria, and West Australia. Phil and Ernie’s 7 New Zealand tours included the Wellington & Dunedin Folk Festivals and the Christchurch Jazz Festival, Spiegeltent.
