Twelve of the brightest young musicians, the 2019 Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows, will perform an intriguing program of chamber works and arrangements, for Wyvern Music Forestville. A fanfare in the form of Purcell’s Fantasias for brass trio, boldly begins the concert, and concludes with Carl Friedrich Ebers’ arrangement of Beethoven’s First Symphony, following the 19th century custom of publishing chamber arrangements of popular symphonies.

Iain Farrington has continued this practice into the 21st Century with his arrangement of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel Overture. Benjamin Britten’s Sinfonietta is a mini symphony for eleven players and was his first published work, establishing him as a major force in British music. Peggy Polias is a remarkable young Australian composer whose work Street Sketches explores the relationship between popular and classical music.

Now in its 18th year, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship is one of the world’s leading orchestral training programs. The year-long Fellowship program offers emerging artists the opportunity to work closely with Australia’s premier orchestra, mentoring by permanent members of the different sections through technical and practical experience, and crucial training to secure positions in professional orchestras around the world. The 2019 Fellows were chosen from over 200 applications across Australia and New Zealand.

Wyvern Music Forestville, a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with the Federated Music Clubs of Australia NSW Council Inc, has been serving the Warringah community since 2004, providing quality music locally at reasonable prices.
