The Canberra Youth Orchestra, jointly conducted by Rowan Harvey-Martin and Max McBride, will be performing alongside soloist Christian Li, winner of the 2018 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition.

Christian Li, currently twelve years of age, began learning violin at the age of five and studies under Dr. Robin Wilson, Head of Violin at Australian National Music Academy in Melbourne. As well as winning the 2018 Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition Junior First Prize, Christian won 1st Prize in the violin category of the Young Artist Semper Music International Competition in Italy in 2017 and was selected to perform at Carnegie Hall Isaac Stern Auditorium in NY in the American Protégé Showcase 10-year Anniversary concert. Christian made his solo debut at the age of 9 with the Australian Orchestra. He will be performing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor with the Canberra Youth Orchestra.

For this concert, the Canberra Youth Orchestra will be joined by conductors Rowan Harvey-Martin and Mac McBride. Both Max and Rowan have had active conducing careers, having worked with many of the professional orchestras and choirs in Australia. They both have an extensive history of conducting the Canberra Youth Orchestra in previous years, so it is an absolute pleasure to welcome them back to the stage for this concert.

It has been a fine year of music making for the Canberra Youth Orchestra, and this will be their final concert for the year. Since the beginning of the year, they have performed and collaborated with a number of different Canberra-based groups, including the James McCusker Orchestra, the Canberra Choral Society and the ANU School of Music. The orchestra greatly looks forward to working with world-renowned soloist Christian Li to celebrate their last concert for 2019.

Do not miss this exciting opportunity to support some of Canberra’s finest young musicians perform with one of Australia’s most talented young soloists.
