Leading not-for-profit community-based organisation, Community Vision is leading the way in dementia awareness as WA’s first travelling community dementia bus gets out and about during Dementia Awareness Month (September).
On Friday 27th September, the bus will be stopping by at the Kalamunda RSL during their AGM, to address dementia, ageing and home care services available to those in the area. There will be the opportunity to look through the new community dementia bus and seek advice and support for loved ones living with dementia.
All community members interested in learning more about dementia, supporting a dementia friendly community or interested in education and respite services for those living with dementia and their carers, are encouraged to come along and say hello.
Community Visions travelling bus will visit relevant community locations such as the Kalamunda RSL throughout Dementia Awareness Month to provide the opportunity for the wider community, who don’t have immediate access to local services to get the education, respite and advice they need when it comes to dealing with those living with dementia. It will also offer access to new technology and innovations such as Virtual Reality (VR) for those living with the disease.
Community Vision’s travelling dementia bus has been made possible by the generosity of West Australians—supporting a bold fundraising campaign called A Roast to Remember. The fundraising campaign encourages people to get friends, family and neighbours together for a special roast dinner and raise funds or simply go online and donate. It will also see the launch of a Celebrity Recipe Booklet later in the year with more info available at aroasttoremember.com.au.
All funds raised to date are what has made the travelling bus a reality, and further funds raised will be used to service and man the dementia bus and continue its journey, with the aim of visiting a minimum of two locations each week covering metro, regional and rural WA.
