To explore current and future directions in breast cancer research and clinical trials, Breast Cancer Trials will be hosting a Q&A event at Elder Hall in North Terrace, Adelaide.

Called ‘Directions in Breast Cancer Research: Ask the Experts’, the event will be moderated by Mia Freedman—founder of Mamamia and former magazine editor of Dolly, Cosmopolitan and Cleo.

The Q&A will feature a panel of breast cancer experts and trial participants, to discuss and answer questions about current breast cancer research and clinical trials, research trends and developments, and what can we expect in breast cancer research in the future.

Our panel of experts are:

Associate Professor Prue Francis
Chair of the BCT Scientific Advisory Committee, Head of Breast Medical Oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne and consultant Medical Oncologist at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. She is the Study Chair of the SOFT and TEXT clinical trials, which produced practice changing results in the treatment of breast cancer in young women.

Ms Leslie Gilham
Chair of the BCT Consumer Advisory Panel and participant in the TEXT clinical trial.

Professor Sunil Lakhani
BCT Board Director, Executive Director of Research and Senior Staff Specialist at Pathology Queensland and Head of the Breast Group, Centre for Clinical Research, University of Queensland, Brisbane.

Dr Stuart McIntosh
Specialist breast surgeon at Belfast City Hospital and a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Surgical Oncology at Queen’s University in Belfast. He is also an international guest speaker at BCT’s Annual Scientific Meeting.

Associate Professor Nicholas Wilcken
BCT Board Director, Director of Medical Oncology at the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead, Senior Staff Specialist at Nepean Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is the Study Chair of the HERA clinical trial, which proved the benefits of Herceptin for women with HER2-positive breast cancer.

Dr Nicholas Zdenkowski
Medical Advisor at Breast Cancer Trials, Medical Oncologist at the Calvary Mater Hospital Newcastle and Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle. He is the Study Chair of the PALLAS clinical trial, which is investigating the effectiveness of palbociclib in patients with early stage breast cancer.

About the Q&A:
This event is free to attend but registration is required to secure your seats. When registering for the event, attendees may submit a question or topic that they would like answered or discussed on the night. The event will be broadcast live on Facebook.

41st Annual Scientific Meeting:
The Q&A event coincides with BCT’s 41st Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), which will be held in Adelaide from 24-26 July 2019. The ASM attracts leading breast cancer researchers from around Australia and internationally, to discuss the latest in breast cancer clinical trials, an update on the BCT research program, developments in breast cancer research worldwide and new research concepts. The ASM is not open to the general public to attend. For more information about the ASM, visit Breast Cancer Trials 2019 website.
