Weaving Threads In Contemporary World Music

9:30–10:30 - Guy Strazz Passionfruit Trio (PTF) (Main Act)

Virtuoso guitarist and Jazz APRA Awarded composer, Guy Strazz, is a pioneer of World Jazz in Australia. His debut album—The Riddle—with ABC Jazz catapulted the trio with Steve Hunter and David Jones to the top of the charts back in the late 90s. Guy is at Foundry 616 on Thur 5 Sep with his ongoing project Passionfruit Trio injecting Afro-Latin-Indian classical-jazz fusion in their original works as well as standards.

"Guy is one of my favourite Indo-jazz guitarists." - Niranjan Jhaveri, Down Beat USA

"Passionfruit Trio not only eased people into a Sunday morning evilly truncated by daylight saving but then electrified them." Wangaratta Jazz Festival, John Shand

Guy Strazz - guitars, loops
Maharshi Raval - tabla and other percussions
Michel Latumaelissa - acoustic and electric bass.

8:30–9:00pm - Blair Greenberg and Paul Chenard
Magic happens when Blair Greenberg explores the celestial sounds of the handpan. This UFO-shaped percussion offers a wealth of rhythmic and melodic possibilities as Blair injects years of knowledge of different rhythm cultures. Paul Chenard’s inventive and lyrical sax and Indian flute weave magic into the mix to complete the picture.

Blair Greenberg - handpan and other percussions
Paul Chenard - sax and Indian flute

10:30–10:50 - PFT meets Greenberg and Chennard (Jam)
