An enticing exhibition portraying birds in art by acclaimed Sydney-based bird artist Guy Troughton.

A master of capturing the essence of his subjects, in Flight and Form Troughton contemplates the perilous future many bird species face due to climate change, presenting a collection of powerfully observed evocative work including studio paintings, dynamic drawings, field sketches and sublime watercolours.

“Like much of the natural world, birds are being seriously impacted by climate change as their habitats shrink and change. Troughton says. “There are so many species under threat or facing extinction that, as an artist, I am driven to raise awareness and try to engage people to think more deeply about what’s at stake.” Troughton hopes his work will resonate with viewers and encourage reflection as well as wonder.

“I’ve been painting birds and other animals most of my life,” Troughton explains. “Initially, after completing a zoology degree, I took a more scientific approach and was obsessed with capturing every single detail and feather, now my intent is to portray the essence and sheer beauty of birds – something that is much more challenging.”

Troughton’s own authentic and deeply personal response to the natural world emanates in his expressive work—enticing the viewer in and presenting a highly engaging portrayal of birds in art. “Birds are endlessly fascinating beautiful creatures and I for one could never imagine a world without them,” Troughton says.

Renowned for his exquisite watercolours and bird and animal portraiture, Guy Troughton’s award-winning work is featured in countless natural history publications and his wildlife paintings are held in several notable collections world-wide. Guy currently lives and teaches on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

Meet the artist talk and demonstration on Saturday October 26 and Saturday November 2pm.
