Hey Gringo formed by multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Daryl Roberts (Spectrum/Blackfeather/Photo/Breakaways/Fingerprint) around 1993 performing tongue-in-cheek acoustic original blues and roots with Paul Gadsby (Paul Kelly, Colin Hay, Bachelors From Prague/Hot Club, On The Prowl). Developing a dynamic unique souind when the band expanded to a combo including sax and drums and recording their first album in 2000 gaining criticial acclaim and reviews across Australia and as far as Germany, Argentina and Canada. Recorded at Nicky Bomba's Noahs Ark Studio the "Is Was There" included guest appearances by Nicky Bomba, Ross Hannaford(Daddy Cool) and David Williamson on sax.

The prolific songwriting of Roberts and Gadsby produced their second album "Funky Car" in 2003 to further acclaim and airplay in Netherlands, Belgium and USA. Les Oldman joined on drums and Laurie Bongailas on sax. Guests on this album included Australian music icons Spectrum, Ross Wilson & Broderick Smith (Dingoes).

Hey Gringo's characteristic thought provoking and yet somewhat mischeveous lyrics backed with a soulful funky blues & jazz feel, exploring all corners of retro sounds with a freshness of Now. Playing festivals and venues across Oz they followed up the rave reviews of this album in 2005 with "Three" again with Wilson, Spectrum on board as well as guitar legend Kevin Borich and the amazing Lil'Fi. The song "Won't Let You Down" being picked up on Neighbours TV worldwide and the album taking Hey Gringo to some of the major festivals in Australia. Sax players who came through the ranks during this period included Stuart Orr, Gene Schill, David Hine, Sean Vagg & Brian Strafford(also on guitar) & recently Aaaron Searle(Grand Whazoo).

In 2007, they released "Live From the Vault" recorded at their distrubtion companies studios in front of an enthusiastic audience with guests Marcus Alexander (Nudist Funk Orchestra), Spectrum & Neale Johns(Blackfeather). A testiment to their live atmosphere and the infectious vibe they generate Hey Gringo is definitely one of the most original and entertaining live bands in years as described by their audiences.
