A night to meet people from around the world, over a simple shared meal, to build stronger connections across faiths and non-faith communities. We are delighted to invite you to our third annual community Iftar dinner! Tickets start at $5 and are available for purchase online:

Iftar is the name for a dinner held daily after sunset to mark the end of a day of fasting. Ramadan, the ninth month in the Muslim calendar, is a special time for the Muslim community. We look forward to this year’s Iftar Dinner as an opportunity to provide hospitality to our neighbours, and to promote a culture of dialogue that brings in the many different cultures that make Queensland such a special place to live in.

We will be joined by Senator Richard Di Natale, Leader of the Australian Greens and our national spokesperson on Multiculturalism, as well as some fantastic guest speakers, to be announced soon. This event is open to people of all walks of life and everyone is welcome to come along. You don’t have to know anything about politics (or religion!) to join us. It will be a relaxed, friendly environment with guest speakers. Children are welcome to join, with child minding provided on site.

Funds raised thought this event will go to Refugees Welcome Australia (RWA), which help refugees and people seeking asylum by providing long-term and stable accommodation with local residents who have a spare room in their house or apartment. Housing is a human right! By providing a foundation of stability, people who find housing through RWA are able to re-start their lives, rather than worrying about where they will live or where they will get their next meal.

Some things to keep in mind:

- People of all backgrounds are encouraged to attend
- This is a family-friendly event
- If you need an AUSLAN interpreter, be sure to let us know! We work with a great interpreter for public events, but we will only book her if we’re certain there’s someone who requires sign language.
- The venue is wheelchair accessible. For more information on access issues, please call the Senate Office on 3367 0566.
- The dinner is halal, as the menu will be vegetarian. Vegan and gluten-free options are available. Keep an eye out on the event Facebook page for a full menu.
- There is some parking space available, but car-pooling is strongly encouraged.
- There is public transport near the venue, with the closest stop a 400 m walk away and route 541 stopping hourly.
