The Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Maleny will come alive this year with a magical celebration of winter arts and crafts. Knitfest – Yarn and Fibre Arts Festival aims to give visitors a chance to discover new skills and creativity using yarns and fibres. Under 1.5 hrs north of Brisbane, this will be a fun day out, or weekend get-away for the whole family and a must do for anyone with a passion for yarn and fibre arts.

The town’s streetscape will literally be wrapped in art, as the Knitfest Team yarnbomb trees, buildings and inanimate objects. There are 7’ high sculptures made from fibre, guest speakers, workshops, music, craft markets, trade stalls and more. The festival aims to promote yarn and fibre crafts, fibre artists, as well as the regional town of Maleny and all it's many tourist attractions. Ride the Knitfest ‘Mystic Bus’ as it weaves its way around the Festival Precinct.

Knitfest has a lot packed into 2 full days, including 26 workshops from prominent fibre artists, tree cosy competitions where groups or business's can choose a tree to decorate, as well as knitting/crochet competitions. All entries are only $5 and you could win $100 first prize. Crafts on display include knitting, crochet, basket weaving, spinning, felting, weaving plus lots more.

One of the highlights of the festival is the unique and inspiring workshops featuring dyeing wool with eucalyptus leaves and Indigo dyeing, felting a bowl or scarf, dry felting a mermaid, faerie or toadstools, textile basket weaving using silk. There are lots of crochet and knitting workshops too. Bookings are now open, so visit the website to book your place early.
