Cine Vivo presents a special screening of Mexican drama La Jaula de Oro/The Golden Dream, a piercing and poetic road movie that follows the fortunes of four Guatemalan teenagers on a dangerous journey across the Mexican border into America. This Cannes Film Festival award winner is the first feature film by director Diego Quemada-Díez. Before the film, enjoy the most iconic of Mexican music with our local Mariachis ¡A Festejar! plus delicious, authentic Mexican tamales and the bar!

Film Synopsis:
Juan, Sara, and Samuel, three teenagers from the slums of Guatemala, travel to the United States in search of a better life. On their journey through Mexico, they meet Chauk, an indigenous boy from Chiapas who doesn't speak Spanish. Traveling together in freight trains and walking on railroad tracks, they will soon have to face an odyssey that will change their lives forever.

The film received over 37 awards around the world, including the François Chalais Award and the Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival (2013), 11 Ariel Awards including Best Picture in 2014, the Golden Gateway at the Mumbai Film Festival, the Gold Hugo for Best New Director at the Chicago Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize for First Work at the Havana Film Festival, the Best International Film at Mar del Plata and Zurich Film Festivals, as well as the Critics Award and the International Jury Award at Sao Paulo International Film Festival.
