Leave Your Hat On – Celebrating Joe Cocker & Leon Russell

The Flying Saucer Club look forward to hosting "Leave Your Hat On" celebrating the spirit and sound of Joe Cocker and Leon Russell & honours their legend.

The show features all those killer songs such as ‘Feelin Alright’, ‘Hitchcock Railway’, ‘The Letter’, ‘Delta Lady’, ‘You Are So Beautiful’ ,‘Unchain My Heart’ and of course the title of the show ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ to name but a few. The band was formed a couple of months after Joe’s death in 2015 and has played to large and appreciative audiences ever since!

Joe Cocker was a reggae-loving working class English rock, blues and soul singer from Sheffield who rose to world-wide fame in the late 1960s when he collaborated with Texan pianist /guitarist and band leader Leon Russell.

Joe was known for his incredibly powerful emotional and soulful voice, charismatic stage presence, and wonderful re-imaginings of other peoples’ songs, including several from the Beatles who said he could use any of their songs.

Cocker’s cover of "With a Little Help from My Friends" reached number one in 1968. He then performed an iconic set at Woodstock festival in 1969 and that brilliant performance together with the record-breaking "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour (with Leon Russell) etched both their names forever in the annals of pop history.

Both Joe and Leon went on to have remarkable and successful careers lasting over 50 years. We sadly lost Leon in 2017.
