Ten talented young people aged between 14 and 25 have been selected to program the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre, programming the entire building for Let’s Take Over presents The Réveillon, a one-day arts festival on Saturday 2 March 2019.

The young programmers have been busy curating and shaping their ideas for the event over the past months. Audiences are set to enjoy an eclectic variety of experiences, from artistic exchanges facilitated by the young producers to the transformation of discarded household items into wearable art. Live contemporary music from emerging artists and audio tracks created in real-time using the sounds captured from the atmospherics of the festival will drift through the spaces of the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre. The take-over’s big finish, will culminate in an all indigenous drag spectacular, Stone presents Drag of Naarm, performed in the majestic Main Hall space.

The team’s interests and backgrounds vary greatly and are represented by 15-year-old songwriter and producer, Aidan Knight, 20-year-old Tré Turner, an Arrernte drag performer/queer artist; 19-year-old emerging visual artist, Klari Agar; 22-year-old contemporary artist, jeweller, and object maker, Jessica Phippen; and 16–year-old Zadie McCracken, a Melbourne-based student and writer whose poems and short stories have been published in several magazines.

Theatre-maker, researcher and curator, Sarah Austin, the lead facilitator of this project, has previously been the Artistic Director and CEO of St Martin’s Youth Arts Centre and is currently leading a research project on inclusive arts practice between Arts Access Victoria and the University of Melbourne.

Let’s Take Over presents The Réveillon is the first event to launch the Darebin Arts Speakeasy 2019 Season, a year-round contemporary arts program presented at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and Darebin Arts Centre. Other highlights of the 2019 program include Whale by Fleur Kilpatrick, Joseph O’Farrell’s The Cabin and Disability Slapstick Plan’s A Normal Child.
