We will be practising traditional Turkish art “Ebru” (which is commonly known as marbling art) for two hours. It is the art of creating colourful patterns by dropping and splashing paints onto a tray of oily water with special brushes. These patterns are then transferred to a retentive piece of paper. It’s a mesmerising, magical world due to the nature of the used materials. Playing with colours on moving water and creating unique patterns each time, helps an Ebru maker to discover inner vision and creativity about himself or herself. It also helps to ease anxiety and stress by providing tranquillity to the soul.
The workshop will commence with a brief introduction of the basic materials that are used to practice marbling art. We will then continue with learning the history of ebru, the techniques and application process of traditional ebru patterns and transferring them on paper or other materials.
