This July, The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival comes to Backlot Cinemas for its fourth impressive edition, featuring the most thought-provoking, progressive and eclectic docos from Australia and around the world.
The festival competition will see country vs country, film school vs film school, festival vs festival and legendary filmmakers vs emerging talent in an epic 11 day competition.

Description: Robert Kidney has been a musical force since the 1970s. His group, The Numbers Band, celebrating its 47th year, have been praised by Rolling Stone's David Fricke and Greil Marcus and called "the greatest band I've ever seen" by Pere Ubu’s David Thomas. Despite years of praise by peers, the band remains obscure. ‘Big Paradise’ introduces film audiences to Kidney for the first time, revealing a powerful and complex person who lives and works in the shadow of the Midwestern decay.

Shot and edited by acclaimed music filmmaker Gregg Houston (Noel Gallagher, Two Door Cinema Club, Michael Kiwanuka, Foy Vance), 'Somewhere In Their Heads' follows Curse Of Lono as they record between London and a remote, desert studio in Joshua Tree, California. The film offers a unique glimpse into the recording process and the stories behind the songs, including deeply personal conversations about heroin addiction and the death of family members.
