Jazz pianist Steve Sedergreen and his brother, multi-saxist Mal Sedergreen are set to reunite as Mistaken Identity for a one-off show, performing some of the best contemporary jazz around.

Steve is one of Melbourne’s most dynamic and in-demand pianists, leading Mistaken Identity through numerous incarnations, six recordings, countless live performances and an APRA nomination for best jazz composition. Mal is an extremely talented and versatile saxophonist who plays tenor, alto and soprano saxes and is also an accomplished composer.

Steve and Mal will be joined by Tony Floyd on drums and Kim May on bass, who both possess the same musical sensibility and enthusiasm as the brothers. Mistaken Identity last graced the stage five years ago and have performed at Melbourne clubs such as Bennett’s Lane, Dizzy’s, the Paris Cat, as well as major festivals around the country, garnering rave reviews along the way. The band was first formed back in the ’80s when Steve was still at the VCA studying jazz and he and Mal co- led the ensemble that first brought them to prominence on the Australian jazz scene. The brothers are also well- known in the jazz world as sons of jazz great, pianist Bob Sedergreen.

This is a rare opportunity to see and hear a remarkable group of musicians who now only perform together occasionally. For this special show Mistaken Identity will perform tracks from their four studio recordings of original material, including one dedicated to Stevie Wonder songs.

Once a police station and court house, the Kew Court House is a charming heritage building that has been redeveloped into a thriving contemporary cultural centre. The venue now provides a unique, intimate performance space with extraordinary ambience, where some of Australia’s most exciting artists perform.
