Moon cup is the new solo project of Rita Khayat (Spiral Perm). Armed with driving bass lines and accompanied by hypnotic drums, it's post punk that's larger than the sum of its parts. Smouldering but tender. Moon Cup is quickly becoming a fixture of the Melbourne scene, and is one to watch.
Roles play new-age, post-punk with an iPad, 3-string electric guitar, and vocals. The sound is built around a core of synth bass-lines, drum machine, and lyrics formed with found (stolen) words. The duo features Louise Love (formerly of Louise Love) and Luis Gutiérrez. Their first 10 songs work as a collection and will eventually release as a concept album.
Jessica at Birth is the project of Hanna Jenkin using vintage Lesley organ tape loops recorded into her audiotronics amp and combining bass riffs, vocals, theatrical storytelling in the tradition of indie low fi punk experimental performance. Exploring feminism and class, Jessica at Birth will be joined on the night by her improvisation collaborator Lou.
