It was the sound that changed America!

Founded in 1959 and still in operation today, Motown Records became a force for social and cultural change during 1960s America, where racial segregation divided the country. Drawing influence from the American deep-south, for many fans Motown is the defining sound of 60s pop, R&B and soul with its distinctive gospel-inspired vocal harmonies, driving bass lines and tambourines.

The likes of Diana Ross, the Supremes and Stevie Wonder championed the sound and touched the hearts of people across America and the world, changing the face and sound of popular music everywhere. This year, the USQ third year music students will revisit the music of Motown, breathing new life into the classics you know, love and remember!

About the Classic Albums project:

Celebrating significant albums of the past! The annual Classic Album show revisits the touchstone albums, celebrated songwriters and memorable music moments from the past!

Inspired by the fact that every generation of popular musicians leaves an indelible mark on popular culture this 70 min show, produced by USQ’s third year music students, looks to rework, rethink and revisit these marks.

The album being revisited will be decided during early semester one study by the students. Previous shows have focused on The Music from Woodstock, Carole King’s Tapestry and, Simon and Garfunkel’s Concert in Central Park.

This is a PWYC (Pay What You Can) event, meaning we want you to pick the price that suits you! PWYC makes arts affordable to all while still providing support for artists and the arts community. We set the pricing intervals—you pick the price (we promise there’s no catch)!
