Music On a Market Sunday – Pajajaran

Join Pajajaran in celebration of their 7th Anniversary of Armidale community membership performances. Pajajaran are delighted to be joined, in this performance, by Steve Harris, 'creative percussion master'. This one-off event features as the July installment of the Music on a Market Sunday Concert series; showcasing the talents of local musicians and ensembles, from a variety of musical backgrounds/genres, on the last Sunday of the month.

Pajajaran is a dynamic 10-piece Armidale community ensemble who perform traditional, modern and ‘fusion’ repertoires associated with the haunting degung and madenda tuned percussion and flute music of West Java, Indonesia.

Contemporary compositions and arrangements of Sundanese music is the primary developmental focus of the group, incorporating lively Sundanese style drumming, pop-Sunda grooves and a variety of Western and Indonesian instrument combinations. Bamboo flute ('suling'), saxophone, viola and fiddle often feature as solo instruments against the background gamelan ensemble texture. Influences include elements of Western rock, celtic, folk, classical and traditional Indonesian musical genres.
