Nick Barker has been a familiar painting hanging on the walls of the Australian music scene since the late 1980s. He started off as a bass player in Melbourne’s eclectic post-punk scene, most notably with The Wreckery, made it through four psychotic years of booze-soaked pub rock in Nick Barker and the Reptiles, then moved on to a solo career in 1994 with the release of ‘Happy Man’. This album spawned the single ‘Time Bomb’, which ended up at number 20 on the 1994 Triple J Hottest 100 countdown. Nick has seen the Australian music industry spin, chase its tail, die, resurrect and do it all over again. Thirty-five years later, he’s still here and no one is more surprised than him.

A tireless songwriter and performer, Nick has recorded and released nine solo albums in the last 25 years, toured the UK, Europe, North and South America and Asia. He’s written songs with the likes of Tim Rogers, Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes, Mick Thomas and Felicity Urquhart—just to name a few. But at heart, Nick is happiest on stage with a band, his old Telecaster hanging over his shoulder and a beer on his amp in front of a bunch of people who like their music honest, and a story or two! 2019 is the 25th anniversary of the release of ‘Happy Man’. The album was JJJ album of the week and spawned the single ‘Time Bomb’, which ended up at number 20 on the 1994 Hottest 100 count down.
To mark the occasion Nick is playing a one-off show, largely focusing on tracks from ‘Happy Man’, but with some other standouts from his quarter century of solo work.
