Palestine: Political Economy

This Palestine Talk will canvass the economic history of Palestine, both under Israeli Occupation and in the preceding years of the 19th and 20th centuries. Canvassed by Dr David Faber, 2 texts will be commented on as a basis for discussion. The first is Shir Hever’s The Political Economy of Israel’s Occupation: Repression Beyond Exploitation Pluto Press London 2010.

The second is Roger Owen ed’s Studies in the Economic & Social History of Palestine in the 19th & 20th centuries MacMillan London 1982. Owen is also the distinguished author of the panoramic survey The Middle East in the World Economy 1800–1914, available for retrieval in the University of Adelaide’s Barr Smith Library.
